The Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation, Inc. and the Maryland Nursery, Landscape, and Greenhouse Association are pleased to be co-hosting the Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the Oakmont Green Golf Course in Hampstead, Maryland. Join us for a relaxing day of golf with agriculture friends and help raise funds for students who are continuing their education in agriculture.

The 18-hole tournament will look a little different this year given less COVID restrictions, but we're hoping to bring you an exciting day of socializing with friends and a little healthy competition, while still trying to  practice social distancing. The tournament begins with registration and range balls available starting at 10 a.m., followed by a lunch at 11am and a shotgun start at noon. Following play, you will be asked to turn your score card into the staff and are free to head home.

Player registration is $125 of which a portion of it goes to our scholarship funds. We encourage you and your business to become a sponsor and support local students pursuing a career in Agriculture! For more details on sponsorship look to our flyer.

These deserving students received MAEF Scholarships in 2022, through your generous contributions to MAEF. Playing golf for a purpose!

Kara Hutchinson of Cordova, Rebeca Fuquen of Arnold, and Lynne Thomas of Fallston, Md., have been awarded the 2022 Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation Academic Scholarship. The MAEF Academic Scholarship was open to rising junior or senior undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in majors leading to careers in agricultural education or Extension education.      Kara Hutchinson “When applying for college, I decided the major suited for me was Agribusiness with a specialization in crops. A business-based degree focusing on the agricultural industry will allow me to learn how to manage a farm or agricultural business properly. The crop specialization will let me know how to serve farmers in the region where I want to work, the Delmarva Peninsula.”

Rebecca Fuquen “My fascination with the beauty of intricate biological processes fuels my drive to relentlessly pursue a career involving animals. My goal is to one day pursue my own research and engage my love for drawing by creating scientific illustrations in my own time. I am passionate about educating the public in animal welfare, handling, and biology, and would love the opportunity to teach professionally in the future,”

Lynne Thomas, “I am an Agricultural and Extension Education major because of my passion for telling agriculture’s story. I know that this is the right path for me because of my life-long love for teaching and for the agriculture.”

Joshua Baker of Adamstown, Md., was awarded the 2022 Dr. Ronald J. Seibel Scholarships from the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation. The Seibel Scholarship was open to students pursuing a two-year or four-year degree in majors leading to careers in agriculture.

Joshua Baker - “I hope to follow in the father's footsteps and continue to farm crops and raise livestock. I hope to be able to give the farm my own touch and leave my legacy for my future kids. Whether that be continuing to expand our grain bin set-up, increasing our herd of Angus cattle, or adding another type of business we can conduct on the farm to keep being successful. A goal I have for the next five years might be to set up a meat market to sell cuts of meat from our cattle. A ten-year goal would be to build a larger shop building to be able to work on our equipment. I am excited for what the future holds for me back home on the farm upon graduation.”

We look forward to your generous sponsorship and seeing you at the tournament!

Sincerely,

The Board and Staff at MAEF
