This years event will support the council's General Charity Account that supports numerous pro-life, non-profit, service, and altruistic organizations including: Carroll County Food Sunday; The Pregnancy Support Center of Carroll County; and The Carroll County Veterans Independence Project.
Carroll County Food Sunday. CCFS distributes a weekly, nutritionally balanced grocery package that is predicated on household size and is meant to last 3-4 days. It includes meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, breads and milk. Over 500 families a week are served at their Westminster, Eldersburg and Taneytown locations. The operating budget is supported by community fund-raisers and direct mail solicitation of county residents. Churches, individuals, school groups and service organizations also raise donations independently on their behalf, and local grocers that donate baked goods. Carroll County Government provides donated warehouse space in Westminster and utilities.
The Pregnancy Support Center of Carroll County is an organization committed to providing real choices to women and supporting them through life’s unexpected journeys. Their goal is to give every woman experiencing an unplanned pregnancy the opportunity to get the facts about the options open to her, and then make an empowered, informed decision about her future. They recognize and respect that each individual and each situation is unique, and there are no easy answers. PSC strives to provide each woman they serve with the information and tools necessary to make intentional, independent choices about her future that reflect her authentic needs, hopes, and goals. PSC is supported solely by the generosity of private individuals and foundations and receives no government funding.
The Carroll County Veterans Independence Project provides a community hub with case management and advocacy for Veterans and their families in Carroll County Maryland and surrounding communities. By providing advocacy and assistance for veterans and their families and utilizing their vast network of partners leading to positive outcomes for veterans, CCVIP provides a safe and secure community-based setting where veterans and their family members can commit to accepting support to receive earned benefits and assistance toward transitioning into their communities as productive citizens. Services include but are not limited to, education and career planning, physical and mental health services, housing, transportation, and help navigating the Veterans medical and benefits system.
Over the past fifteen years more than $140,000 has been distributed to approximately 35 major charities and as many other groups have received lesser amounts throughout the year for emergency assistance or unique circumstances to assist them in their community projects.
Those groups that have benefited from the hard work of K of C golf and support from local businesses and individuals are indeed diverse. A sample of groups that have been assisted include: Elsworth Cemetery, Habitat for Humanity of CC, Kiaros Prison Ministry, Catoctin Pregnancy Center, Delone High School, Fisher House, Princess Pillowcase Project (North Carroll), Tendercare Pregnancy Center, Wreaths Across America, Northeast Social Action (NESAP), Westminster Rescue Mission-Sparrows Nest Pantry, Roots for Boots, ARC of Carroll County, Pregnancy Center of CC, and Apostleship of the Sea..
